Google AMP Pages

Google AMP Pages

Google quietly released AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) at the same time as it closed GoogleCompare and also removed the right hand pay per click ads from its search results page, so you could be forgiven for failing to see the launch of AMP.

AMP is an open source project backed and supported by Google, which by all accounts, is part of Google’s growing commitment to the mobile web. You can see the AMP site here: https://www.ampproject.org/

We have talked in the past about having a mobile responsive website https://www.insurance-marketing.co.uk/articles/the-importance-of-a-responsive-website/ and that is still something all sites should strive for as it will futureproof how users see and consume your website.

AMP will help Google display webpages much, much quicker and those that have AMP coded pages will get preference in their search results. At least that is what is being suggested.

The examples Google themselves use are for editorial content rich sites but there is nothing to suggest that this process is going to be utilised by other sites.
